5 things I’ve learnt in my first week with a KTM 1050 Adventure - MOTOR GERR

Getting to grips with new matters is one of the pleasant bits approximately riding a modern bike (as long as you don’t journey into a hedge whilst looking to training session what ‘menu 2’ at the onboard pc is for). Here are the 5 maximum critical matters I found out in my first week with my 2015 long-term check bike, KTM’s 95bhp V-twin 1050 Adventure…

1. There’s no parking light
In my ebook this is good news as in 14 years of driving I haven’t as soon as used a parking mild deliberately. I’ve by chance used one on lots of activities, leaving the battery going flat. A 12 months and not using a fear of a flat battery? I’ll take that.

2. KTM toolkits are peerless
I’ve had bikes wherein the toolkit consists of one allen key. KTM are sincerely cut from a specific fabric, with an orange pouch filled full of first rate quality tools. There’s even a bottle opener in there. A bloody bottle opener! That one inclusion makes me need to head camping simply so I can use my KTM opener. At first, I concept KTM had unnoticed one vital object because it looked as though I needed a 6mm allen key to alter the surprise preload, and there isn’t one within the kit. Turns out the famous person-formed Torx key is the proper tool for the job.

Three. She’s alright at the returned
When my companion Charlie’s Street Triple R determined not to restart after a keep-up at a level crossing, she had no choice but to get a lift domestic at the lower back of the 1050. Charlie’s covered lots of miles at the again of journey bikes with continental jaunts on a Versys a thousand, Multistrada and a R1200GS – and she gave the 1050 a good evaluation. The lower back seat is comfier than it looks, there’s plenty of room for her feet, she will see the mirrors and clocks for interest and the grabrails are clear of the seat by enough of a distance to genuinely clutch them.

4. The gas variety countdown is 'positive'
With a complete tank it guarantees me 320 miles earlier than it’ll want every other drink. It holds onto that promise for a very good whilst, then steadily reduces expectancies. After a hundred and seventy miles it’s decreased its promise to 60 miles before a pump is required. But while it hits 175 miles it all at once trades Bob Marley mellow for Prodigy panic, flashing up a outstanding ‘low gasoline’ warning. I soon stop and deliver it 18.82 litres, that means it’s blanketed 185 miles at 44.63mpg. If the spec sheet is right there are another 4 litres of gasoline in there, which offers a theoretical variety of 226 miles before empty. Pretty on hand, however hardly 320 miles!

5. The suspension desires fiddling to in shape me
When trying a chunk harder on bumpy back roads the suspension at both ends starts offevolved to protest. As the motorcycle’s nonetheless walking in, that suits me for the time being. But I’ll soon be getting busy with the adjusters.
