Yamaha MT-09 first ride! - MOTOR GERR

Yamaha's eagerly awaited new 3-cylinder roadster is presently being positioned through its paces through MCN Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves. Here are his first impressions:

"We're here at the arena launch of the brand new £6799, 3-cylinder, 847cc Yamaha MT-09 in Croatia.

"On paper the brand new Yamaha is an thrilling prospect. Weighing just 188kg (171kg dry), it's light and that modern-day engine produces 113bhp and 65ftlb of torque.

"Yes, you've got guessed it: it is Yamaha's take at the extremely successful Triumph Street Triple. Unsurprisingly, it even makes the identical noise  when you fire it up - a atypical sound for something with Yamaha written on the tank.

"It's a cute gadget to experience - clean and in no manner intimidating. The 3-cylinder engine is a peach, presenting plenty of low down grunt, a sturdy midrange and a smile-inducing pinnacle give up.

"It's comfortable, controllable, handles and brakes well. It's as glad around city as it's far pulling smooth wheelies and skidding as much as roundabouts. The best bike for the experienced and learners.

"But, the trip-via-twine throttle isn't ideal. I'm having to constantly toggle between the three modes to get a smooth response around city and enough strength on the open avenue. The throttle is a long way too competitive maximum of the time.

"Although it corners properly, the front stop is indistinct and does not provide you with self belief within the corners, until you carry a variety of brake on the manner in, which isn't always ideal. It feels too excessive and difficult.
