The standard MT-10 (which gets a quickshifter and revised mapping for 2017) burst on to the scene last year and rocked the super naked institution.
With its punchy crossplane crank motor, sparkling handling, retiring natural philosophy and natural riding position, the naked R1 proven to be fun, quick and sensible. Crucially it became the primary ever hardcore naked to return from Japan.
In MCN’s 2016 super naked cluster it had the beating of the BMW S1000R, KTM 1290 Super Duke R, Ducati Monster R and Triumph Speed Triple R.
Only Aprilia’s mighty (and much more expensive) Tuono V4 1100 mill had what it took to place the Yamaha within the shade, however that would be set to alter with this new SP version.
For an additional £2600 over the the bottom model the SP has identical basic engine, natural philosophy and chassis, however comes with semi-active Ohlins electronic suspension, a full color TFT dash, a quickshifter associated an R1M look-a-like paintjob.
Check back here over the weekend and on MCN’s social media channels, to find our initial impressions and browse the total check within the March first issue of MCN.
